A three-building design + build project in Rosendale, New York

If you found this page from the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, you’re looking at Skink Hollow — a compound of three red buildings that I’ve been designing and building over the past several years.

The project includes a cottage, a small bungalow, and a garage/studio, each designed in response to the unusual site: exposed rock ledges, steep terrain, mature woods, and the rail trail along its edge.

Skink Hollow has also become an unexpected habitat for five-lined skinks and other wildlife, which has influenced how I manage the landscape and the property.

I’m David Metzger, designer and builder, and Skink Hollow is both a personal project and an example of the kind of hands-on design and construction work I do through Design This.
